Two years later, on the November 9, 1989, the gates where opened. The wall had fallen. Today is the 20th anniversary of the fall of the wall. Actually, it is 20 years ago since the Tian'anmen Square massacre in China, but that was earlier this year. November 02. 2009The highlights: * WalMart employees accuse gay couple of stealing, despite receipts in hand. * WalMart manager refuses to speak to them or review video footage. * Police are called at gay couple's insistance. * Police HANDCUFF and put gay couple in squad car without any questioning. * Gay couple's SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN are put in a detention room by employees without permission, injuring one child in the process. * When gay couple is finally proven innocent, WalMart refused to apologize and BANNED THEM FOR LIFE from any WalMart store for "being uncooperative". * Meanwhile, the children were being verbally threatened in the back room while alone with the security guards, being told their daddies were bad people. * Police refused to take statements from the children about what had happened to them. * The couple were then told they had to leave WalMart immediately or be arrested for trespassing. * The couple's attempts to press criminal charges were refused; the couple's attempts to meet personally with the Sheriff were also refused. *The kicker? WalMart is suing them for 10x the price of the item that THEY HAD A RECEIPT FOR. Why? No one is certain... But they still won't apologize or claim any fault in traumatizing of the special needs children. Needless to say, Wal-Mart will not be getting any more of our business. WalMart has a history of being rude and uncooperative to minorities and those who are "different", but this is beyond ridiculous. Threatening kids because they were adopted by gay parents? No. Sorry. A bit over a week before November I stupidly reactivated my Nanowrimo account in the way one would dangle food in front of a man dying of thirst - I thought that the deadlines and the pretty Flash graphs and the neurotic comparisons of word counts with fellow writers would goad me into continuing WH or finally starting that rewrite I keep thinking of.
It's nearly 10 days in now and I haven't written a single thing. I think it's safe to say that I won't be able to catch up now even if I tried, so I'm giving up for this year. The conditions just aren't right - last year I was able to sneak some writing time in the office, and this time around I have fairly important manuals I need to work on and preferably finish before the holidays. I wonder why I can't just hurl myself headlong into the crush like everyone else, and I balk at the notion that I'd only be word-vomiting for a pairing that I'd normally handle with the utmost care.
So I think... I wouldn't be having this problem if I'd decided to continue either of my previous Nano projects. I didn't have real standards for them and I could ramble and TL;DR to my heart's content. But that kind of rough approach just won't work for WH - I've always been careful with how I write scenes, and TL;DR-ing only to slice out huge parts from the final draft will be heartbreaking. I'll find another way to deal with the problem of my unfinished projects although a rewrite is looking more and more likely yet again sob I vaguely remember getting this dilemma months ago why am I thinking about it again nooow
Forgive me if I don't respond to Nanowrimo update posts. Seeing other people doing well is making me feel guilty and disappointed in myself even as I get great relief at the thought that I wouldn't have put up with that grueling schedule this year, so I've been avoiding your entries like the plague. >: | |

Went to an apple orchard with family, got some apples, pie, apple-bratwurst and wine. (did not know they had a winery) picked up a few bottles for thanksgiving.
Spouse home today sick however, don't know how much online I will be (I did my GA news so that may be it-I'll get to emails later on) but have a great start to your week. | |

Can someone who's had more time and ability to keep track of this stuff catch me up on what version of health care reform did pass the first cut the other day? I know that the stupid abortion part is in. Is there a public option that is actually viable? Or just forcing people to have insurance they can't afford, thereby exacerbating the problem? What did we end up with? Should I just stay in Britain forever...?
Randomly, I'm in a terribly cranky mood today, but not for any good reason. Oh well. Off to Irish. | |

Hey all what's going on? I'm alive and doing alright. I had a really bad week this past week but now things have been made better thanks to Graham and lots of my favorite melon treats X3 We finally went to H-Mart and so I was able to get my beloved melon bread, melon ramune plus other melony treats! I was very happy! But yeah my week was bad last week but it's ok. I'm doing better. I just might not be able to go to Germany and it depressed me a bit. But I'll live. Other things are going alright, I've missed a bit of work and school because I just don't...I don't have much of a drive for school and work. I don't want to do it any more but I don't have too much longer, I hope. And I hope things go well. I'm so tired of school.
Graham and I are doing very well <3 I'm so in love with him! We've talked about a lot of things...we might even move in together if he gets a house soon. It's exciting but definitely a big step we will be continuing to talk about. I am so happy with him <3 He really keeps me from sinking down into deep depression moods like I used to be prone to doing. He keeps me happy and I feel so loved.
There is one problem. A certain someone continues to flirt/hit on and check out Graham blatantly whenever she's over and we're having meet ups at Tim and Shannon's. It's pissing me off. Everyone can tell that she's hitting on him and it's crossing a line. You don't do that to a friend and her boyfriend. I'm to the point where I'm just going to have to go and say "BACK OFF BITCH" bluntly to her face. She pisses me off with everything she's doing, I don't even want her in the same room as us anymore because it's getting out of hand and I've had enough.
I know that Graham will be faithful to me, I trust him. It's her I don't trust though. So yeah. Just grrr.
Anyway, besides that we are very good. Month three is approaching! And so is his birthday! I'm worried about what all to get him but I think I've found some stuff he'll like! I can't wait! I've planned some stuff for his birthday too, it should be fun :3
We're also going home for Thanksgiving, only it won't be on the actual day of thanksgiving, we'll be there on Friday because my parents have the football game on thursday. We've got a hotel room and we're staying in a verrryyyyy nice suite hehe!
So that's about it for now. School is going alright and love life is wonderful! We've only had two real fights and they were over stupid stuff so it's all good! Just gotta keep someone from thinking they can get my man. *huff*
Hope everyone is doing well. I need to do more doll stuff...hopefully I will if it because official that I can't go to Germany.

*throws confetti* Part two of Harrow Children just hit 20,000 words!
20,010 to be precise, and I know that number will go down when I delete out some of my notes for "need rewrite to do _____ instead" and sections, but those will be temporary decreases because I'll be redoing story parts.
I have all the scenes I need either started or notated (saying "[ ___ and ____ scene]") so I actually am over the hump. Especially since the little plot sections I hadn't been able to suss out have finally come together.
That said, I still have a lot of writing to do. Only about ten pages of the current 40-something-almost-50 are straight, readable story; the rest is broken up with scene notation. But the hard part is pretty much done.
I'm going to give a rough estimate of me being about 3/5ths of the way done. So yeah, it's going to be a lot longer than part 1 was.
I'm not going to have much time to work on it this week, alas, since I have a house guest coming this weekend and so I have to clean my apartment. I don't get home until late every day what with language classes (taking Japanese and Chinese and teaching English) and having acapella rehearsal, so I have to clean at night after I get home (plus buy an extra futon and blankets, arrrgh).
But! I am back to working on it. Which is yay. | |

Well, today I managed to make applesauce, bruschetta topping, irish mashed parsnips and carrots, potato leek soup, and set my stove on fire. I feel accomplished!
(Thankfully my instincts are apparently impeccable--even while panicking--as I clapped a lid on the flames and shut the fan off, and managed *not* to burn the place down. >__>;;; No damage to anything except my nerves, thank goodness--even the pot was fine once I scrubbed it out. Stupid stupid me!) | |

So she turned right around and gave it back to him in the same public format. Good for her! I was in my local garden centre a day or so ago and they have all their Christmas gifty type stuff out and on impulse, I picked this up. Oh. My. God. This stuff is heaven in a stoneware jar. Bliss. Perfection. You just stick it in the microwave, stir it a few times during heating, chop some fruit up and that's it. And you can reheat as many times as you want! I had it with strawberries and apple and tomorrow I might try raspberries. A choccie fondue without the fuss and all for you! What's not to like?! This is the full range. I'm still purring as I decide which one to get after this one is finished. | |

I’m in Quebec right now. and to be honest, am a bit homesick. my phone doesn’t work up here, i can’t get on the net from my laptop which means that i have to use the hotel’s computer and the keyboard is made for people who speak French. NOTHING IS WHERE IS SHOULD BE AND SOME THINGS ARE JUST GONE. NOT. HAPPY. *sigh* the conference is going well, although i made an ass of myself at a panel today, happily it was sparsely attended so no one will ever know save the six other people there. ha! I’ve been sightseeing today; I didn’t get to see as much as I’d like b/c everything here closes at 5. It’s very much like London in that way. It is also very annoying. Tomorrow, more panels and the more sightseeing. Also, I am missing the much touted lunch with dr. Herman and friends because cell phones don’t bloody work up here (and even if they did it cost 79 cents a min) so I can’t call anyone to see where they’re meeting and supposedly we were sent and e-mail about it but I never got it. Perhaps he just doesn’t want me to come? i hate this stupid keyboard. *bangs head on desk* I miss Stacy; this would be so much more fun if she was here with me. That is a novelty for me, I’ve never been on a vacation and… ok no, I’ve done that before, and it’s just that I wanted Katie to be there with me. Ok, never mind. Damn but this is a weird keyboard thing. Grrr. And you know what I forgot to pack? I was going to bring some DVDs b/c I knew that I’d end up stuck in the hotel with nothing to do at some point, but I forgot to bring them. To bad there isn’t a local blockbuster or something. *laughs* I did find the local drug store, so I guess I should be happy, my need for a nail file was much more pressing than my need for mindless entertainment. It’s not like I didn’t bring books, it’s just that after sitting in panels all day, I could use some mindlessness. And I miss my cats. I worry about Celle. She’s got asthma, and I know that Stacy will take very good care of her, but she’s never had cats before, thus she’s never had to give meds to a cat before. Now Celle is very good about taking her meds, we (Stacy and I) think that she’s figured out that they help her, because there is such a short time span between her taking the med and her being able to breathe better, plus she’s a pretty smart cat. So she doesn’t fight it, and she doesn’t get all freaked out and run away after, in fact most of the time she’ll follow me around right after. So its not that I’m worried that Celle will be a problem about it, it’s just if you’ve never done it before, I imagine that it would be rather difficult. I grew up with cats, I can’t ever remember not having a cat, so when people don’t know how to pick them up, or that when the swish their tails it means they’re pissed off, it makes me laugh, but it also makes me remember that not everyone knows everything that I know. | |

Why is it that my computer crashes when I'm only about two-hundred words away from finishing a fic I hadn't saved at any point? I mean, hey, my computer is a nice computer. Yesterday, I'd have told you I couldn't remember the last time it crashed on me. I've still got fragments floating around in my head, so I may try to recreate the fic but ... ARGH. Worse things have happened and are happening right now, I know, I know. *sigh* In case you were curious: the fic in question was a Narnia/Doctor Who crossover with Susan as the Doctor's companion, which I'd pledged to write for be_themoon in the Fall Fandom Free For All. Which makes the ARGH even worse, because there's no way I can pull off a second plotbunny for that set-up.On a more cheerful note: thanks to paperflowered, I'm signed up for Yuletide.   I made reasonably competent tamago this morning, and although as usually they aren't the most attractive thing, they are all sweet and fluffy like they are supposed to be. And they have a cute spiral pattern in the middle from being rolled up. I'm almost at the end of season 1 of Millenium, which is sad because I know 2 and 3 are not nearly as good. YOSH. I definitely have to catch up on wordcount today. | |
